Hi everyone!

Happy Friday!! It’s officially Summer tomorrow, and we are oh-so excited!! Have you seen our What We Love post yesterday? The Camelot Design Studio shared our weekly loves with you! You can check out the post here :)

It’s also time to end another great week with our Fan Friday! Today we’ve got one that is inspiring us to do some summer baking this weekend. Ruth Davis of Quilt ‘n’ Fabric shared with us two absolutely beautiful aprons created with our Gray Matters More by Jackie McFee collection…and we just had to share! Quilt ‘n’ Fabric is a quilt shop located in Maine dedicated to handmade quilts, fabrics, yarn, and other sewing, knitting, crocheting, & scrap-booking supplies. As well, sewing classes and patterns are offered!

These two GMM apron designs feature a retro-style halter, a big bow waist-tie, and a ruffled bottom…all of our favorite things!! The yellow and gray color combination works perfectly for a fresh and contemporary-looking apron, perfect for the stylish baking- or cooking-enthusiast. We absolutely adore them, and they make us want to cook up something yummy in the kitchen now!! :)

Hi everyone!

Happy Thursday!! We hope everyone’s day is as sunny and wonderful as our is today. We are definitely thankful for the warmer weather and longer days; it’s such a lovely change to still have the glimmering of sun peaking through at 8 PM. Here’s to Summer!! (officially on Sunday, in fact!)

It’s also time for another thank you, one closer and more dear to our hearts. We had the absolute pleasure of collaborating with the ever-so-talented Kristy Daum of St. Louis Folk Victorian to create some stunning pillow patterns for us! Kristy had started her love for sewing as a child, and this spark only flourished to a love for quilting! She currently resides is St. Louis, Missouri and is the founder and President of the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild. As well, she has lectured and taught at several quilt workshops and events, and loves modern quilting! She also has her own line of patterns, all of which you can find on Etsy and Craftsy! Be sure to check them out, because her designs are awesome (…and so is she, of course)!!

Kristy created four pillow patterns for us for our Free Projects Program, two of which are now available on our website! One of her patterns is called Around The Block which is a fun pillow pattern of geometrically placed, isosceles triangles that create a super cool and modern effect. We absolutely love how it looks with our Black & Tan Collection! Another pillow pattern that Kristy created for us is called Elevation, which a stunning gradation of triangles in a chevron alignment. We love the simplicity of this pattern, and how there is so much flexibility to play around with different color ways and fabric designs. Such a seamless design!

Kristy also sewed the Elevation pillow for us with our What A Gem Collection, and it looks incredible (even more-so in person, if you can imagine!). We lovelovelove how the chevron pattern goes perfectly with the feathers and arrow designs in this line, and how the colors are in an almost ombred effect! Kristy did an absolutely fantastic job sewing this together for us, and we cannot thank her enough for doing it in a shorter timeframe. Kristy also blogged about Elevation on her blog, so be sure to check out the post here! You’ll find more information on the how-to for the construction of the pillow.

Be sure to check out the Elevation and Around The Block pillow patterns on our website, both of which are available as free patterns! Thank you SOSO much, Kristy, for being such an incredible person to partner with – all of your patterns are super clear and easy-to-follow and it has been an absolutely pleasure working with you thus far. We hope this is the beginning of a wonderful partner/friendship! Be sure to check our Kristy’s blog for lots more, as well as her Etsy Shop, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest!! Lots of fun stuff on quilting, sewing, fabric, and more to be found. Have an awesome rest of the day, everyone!

Hi everyone!

Happy Tuesday! Hope everyone is having a great one so far!! It’s such a pretty day out, we decided to have a fun photo shoot outside for today’s post! And even more prettiness coming your way with our current Neon & On FQ Bundle Giveaway that ends tomorrow. Be sure to enter HERE if you haven’t yet! :)

Speaking of photo shoots, today’s How To’s Day is inspired by just that! Here at the Camelot Design Studio, we are always looking for new and progressive ways to improve the look of our blog. We try to post interesting and refreshing things daily, and we hope you have been enjoying our posts thus far, but there’s always room for improvement! One thing that we are trying to get better at is our photography skills. A well-written post is one thing, but having an eye-catching photograph is what will grab the reader’s attention. What we have learnt through practice is that no matter how fantastic your camera is, lighting is key to a brilliant photo! However, studio lighting such as softboxes, umbrella lighting, and reflectors can be a pretty pricey investment…especially if you don’t need to use it every day.

We have come up with a pretty brilliant DIY project that is 1) cost-effective and 2) a great way to improve your photography skills/photos. Our DIY Soft Light Reflector uses our satin and, if you can believe, a hula hoop! How’s that for being resourceful? :) We have found that our soft light reflector reduces shadow lines and softens the appearance of your subject, thus creating a better, smoother, and prettier photograph!!

Now you can be your own professional photographer at home, no matter where you live. Take us for example: we’ve had to make due with our urban surroundings of trucks and warehouse buildings. Looks pretty good though, right? You never would have believed! :)

Hi everyone,

Happy Friday!! It’s rainy and gloomy here on this Friday the 13th. Let’s hope that’s the only dreary thing about today. It’s also Sewing Machine Day – how neat! Anyone planning to sew this weekend? :) We’re also hosting a Neon & On FQ Bundle Giveaway on our Facebook Page. Be sure to enter HERE!

A couple of weeks ago, we were perusing George Takei’s Facebook Page (as we do, he always posts the best memes!)…and we stumbled upon a post with our Star Trek fabric. George Takei posted OUR Star Trek fabric. Needless to say, it took us a while to let that sink in. And once it did, and we did our happy dance, we excitedly read through some of the comments on the post. We were amazed!! There were SO many wonderful Star Trek and sewing enthusiasts who posted their projects using that exact Star Trek fabric design! Seeing all the incredible projects with our designs made our whole year!! Star Trek has one of the most loyal fan bases, and it has been so fun getting to be a small part of it.

We thought it would be fun to share with you all today some of the amazing, Star Trek projects that were linked with the post. We contacted them, and they all graciously sent photos and more information on their projects.

Heather created this awesome Laptop bag with our Star Trek fabrics, which includes a supportive crossbody strap and room enough for a large laptop as it measures 18″ x 15″ x 4″. Love it!

We adore this gorgeous Star Trek crossbody bag by Pannay! This crossbody is perfect for students with lots of books or a laptop to carry, but was inspired to entice her husband to carry the diaper bag (hehe clever!). Pannay also sells fun bag patterns at her Etsy Shop, and has a blog. Be sure to check her out for more!

We love a great quilt, and this one surely catches our eye! Cathy used our Star Trek fabric to create this awesome quilt for her friends. It’s colorful, fun, and bright and we adore how she highlights the characters well. Great job, Cathy!

A BIG thank you to Heather, Pannay, and Cathy for sharing their Star Trek projects with us!! :) We also want to thank George Takei for sharing about our Star Trek fabric!! Still such a surreal moment for us here. We hope everyone has a great Father’s Day weekend!!
