Designer Spotlight: Jackie McFee
September 7th, 2018 by Camelot Fabrics
BeeYoutiful designer Jackie McFee returns to the Camelot Fabrics blog for her second artist feature. In case you missed it, you can read her first interview here: On the open (creative) road with Jackie McFee
As one of our longest-standing designers Jackie’s got plenty of insights into the world of fabric design. What wins us over again and again, though, is the youthful vibrancy of her personality which shines through in everything she creates. Want a dose of that spirit? Read on after the jump!
Camelot Fabrics – What do you listen to when you’re working?
Jackie McFee – I actually love listening to my TV that I have on in the background of my studio. I’m addicted to HGTV and reruns of Friends and Gilmore Girls!
CF – How do you keep your creative momentum, and/or get going again after creative slow times?
JM – I believe it is easier now than ever these days with social media and the internet at our fingertips on our phones! There is so much creative goodness out there on IG (Instagram) and Pinterest that if I feel stuck, I just peruse and think and dream. I follow a lot of photographers, floral designers, bakers, interior designers, etc who introduce me to all sorts of stuff! I also need a daily dose of Golden Retriever pics every day too!! #dogsofinstagram You just have to smile when you see their furry faces : )
CF – How does your location inform the designs you create?
JM – I think living in a sunny, warm climate only enhances my love for color and happy, simple clean patterns.
CF– What’s something you’re excited to tackle right now?
JM – Wallpaper!!!!
CF – What’s the moment in your design career that was the scariest? The most rewarding?
JM – No question, the scariest moment was the minute I gave birth to my first child! I thought how the HECK can I DO ALL OF THIS?!?!?!?! The most rewarding is seeing your designs on a product in a store, or seeing someone post a creation using your fabric. Never gets old.
