How To’s Day: Double-Sided Headband Tutorial
August 5th, 2014 by Camelot Fabrics
Hi everyone,
Happy Tuesday!! We hope you are having a terrific day so far. We cannot believe that we are already into August – we are still hanging onto Summer, and excited to soak up the last bits of sunshine before fall rolls around.
Time for our weekly How To’s Day!! Today we are going to share with you a simple, but very pretty, Double-Sided Headband Tutorial – perfect for adding that extra oomph to any outfit! Our Double-Sided Headband will be your go-to accessory because, with different patterns on either side, you can easily switch up your look from day to night! We love trying out new styles, so this headband is a great way to play around with new colors and patterns. As well, there are so many ways to style a headband – hair down in loose waves or straight, in a topknot, high pony, or side braid…the possibilities are endless!
We also love the idea of creating a bow with the ends for a fun & flirty look, or you can leave the ends in a simple knot. We’d love to know what your favorite way to wear a headband is! We used some of our favorite cotton collections for our Double-Sided Headband, which we found helped the headband stay in place, as opposed to anything too silky. As well, the contoured shape of the headband allows for it to easily shape around your head, and can be tied with ease.
We used our Nightfall and Mint Condition collections for two playful looks. Our Double-Sided Headband is such a fun and straightforward tutorial that we’re sure you’ll be wanting to make one in every color and design combination possible. But no worries, your hair will just always be pretty, put together, and stylish! Click HERE to see the full tutorial!
Double-Sided Headband Tutorial
SUPPLIES:
To make the Headband in Nightfall:
– 1/8 yard of 2141107 #1 (Fabric A)
- 1/8 yard of 2141106 (Fabric B)
To make the Headband in Mint Condition:
- 1/8 yard of 4141104 #1 (Fabric A)
- 1/8 yard of 4141108 #1 (Fabric B)
For either version:
– Paper printer
– Basic sewing supplies:
– sewing machine
– needle & coordinating thread
– iron & pressing surface
– scissors & fabric shears
– straight pins
– fabric marker
NOTES:
– Please wash, dry & iron your fabric before beginning.
– Unless otherwise directed, use a 1/4” seam allowance throughout.
– When sewing the tight curves at either end of the Headband, make it easier on yourself and go slowly. Even better: lower your machine’s needle, lift the foot and rotate the work slightly, then lower the foot and resume your seam. This little trick will help you maneuver in all sorts of tight spots.
CUTTING:
1. Print the Reversible Headband template and tape the pieces together by matching up the numbered triangles. Cut out the Headband.
2. Trace or pin the Headband template to a folded double layer of Fabric A cotton, with the dashed line of the template against the fabric’s fold. Cut out the Headband in Fabric A.
3. Repeat Step 2 for Fabric B.
ASSEMBLY:
1. Sew the (2) Headband pieces together, Right Sides facing, leaving a 3” – 4” gap near one end. Clip your curves and press the seam open.
2. Turn your Headband Right Side outward (a large knitting needle is helpful here) and press the seams again.
3. Whipstitch the gap closed by hand and tie the Headband around your brow for a chic & easy hairdo.
We hope you have enjoyed our Double-Sided Headband Tutorial! We’d love to know which headband is your favorite, the Nightfall or Mint Condition. If you can’t choose between the two, no worries, we can’t either ;) If you decide to try this tutorial out, we’d love to see – you can send all your project pictures to info@camelotfabrics.com. Have a wonderful rest of the day, everyone! :)
Happy Sewing!
